Portion Ki Tissa consists of three parts:
- (30:11-31:18) – Preparing for the crisis. Here the Torah describes those elements of the Temple that were not covered in portions Terumah and Tetzaveh, because those items relate not to the ideal Temple structure, but to the need to overcome evil in the lower world.
- (32:1-29) – The actual incident of the making of the golden calf, and the crisis that ensued.
- (32:30-34:35) – Overcoming the crisis and renewing the covenant.
